Bereavement

Bereavement is a normal episode which occurs in life.  The loss of a loved one will trigger mourning. While everyone grieves at their own rate it typically last 12 months.  Grief can hinder one’s ability to temporarily cope with daily life, while experiencing sadness, tears, loss of appetite and memory challenges.

Alive Recovery understands that for some individuals grief may be intensified and last longer than a year.  In these cases a residential treatment or intense outpatient treatment may be considered.  Chronic grief can be debilitating since this sort resembles the characteristics of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Common symptoms of chronic, prolonged grief may include the following:

  • Continual longing for an individual or condition
  • Becoming overly absorbed over the lost individual or situation
  • Persistent crying
  • Denial and disbelief the loss has occurred
  • Anger and/or self-blame
  • Detachment from others
  • Loss of interest in things and situations
  • Feeling as if life is meaningless without the individual or situation lost
  • Depression and anxiety

And more …

Traumatic Grief

Those who are faced with traumatic grief may experience serious difficulties.  Those who have been affected by a loved one whose passing was due to a homicide or suicide may experience traumatic grief. Witnessing or finding a person in this sad scenario is highly distressing.

Those who have experienced traumatic grief may require intervention if it hinders their capacity to function on a daily basis and have a multilevel fixation about the situation.

Alive Recovery can help clients receive treatment so they can look forward to a healthy life.
